Thomas Hart Benton Home and Studio State Historic Site

It's hot in Kansas City today!  I'm going to stay inside.  So the plan changed and I went to see the Thomas Hart Benton Home.  It's probably less than 5 minutes away but I have been saving it for a day like today.  Cost $5.  Missouri's smallest state park.

He is famous artist, sculptor, teacher and writer.
An overall celebrity.

Despite the glare, one of his works of art

His studio where he died in 1975.

His wife died 11 weeks after him.

The house was so beautiful.

One of his many paintings

He was a big Chiefs fan and did several things for them.

Front of his house.

I will be doing more research on Mr. Benton.  He seems like quite a character.  His wife, Rita, was the business person and sold the paintings.  His artwork is still being found.

We will also go to the Nelson-Atkins to look at some of his work.

There were just 3 (myself and 2 other ladies) of us on the 10 am tour.  The tour takes 45 minutes but we had a great guide and our tour was about 1 1/2 hours.  Lots of fun.  Most of the house has been frozen in time with the family's belongings and furniture.

One of the best things - they had handouts for other attractions.  One of those was Kansas City's Passport to Adventure.  I know it's probably geared toward children but the guide said I could have one.  He even encouraged me to visit all 24 sites.  We have a new list!!

Until tomorrow.
