I really had a hard time deciding if I was going anywhere today.
This is why. 13 degrees!
And Charlie was staring at me.
I finally decided to suck it up and go. We will be getting more snow tonight and tomorrow along with colder temps. There is a good chance I will stay home for the next two days.
I've arrived.
Really celebrating Washington's and Lincoln's Birthday
This table was owned by Joseph Smith. The table was in the family home when Lincoln visited. After Lincoln's assassination in 1865, items related to Lincoln in any way took a sense of importance for those who owned them. This table was merely in the same room as Lincoln but the Smith family kept it for multiple generations because of that.
Fight for Freedom Committee (1941-1947) favored an entry into World War II.
They would mail postcards to the President.
It pledged their support to the President.
It also encouraged the President to proclaim a national emergency,
break all diplomatic relations with the Nazis, and enter the war to defeat them.
Mount Vernon was George Washington's life long home.
The estate was purchased in 1858 by the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association and
almost immediately opened for tours.
The kitchen had White House cookbooks.
This chair from the house of Colonel John Coolidge,
President Calvin Coolidge's father.
Clothing in Washington's time.
(Costume)
The Lincoln Rocker.
This chair belonged to John Wornall.
Henry Ford, owner of Fords Theater, would move a rocker to the box for President Lincoln's comfort. He was killed while sitting in it. The original chair President Lincoln was sitting in is at the Henry Ford Museum.
That was the end of the presidential items. It only took 30 minutes including drive time.
I stopped by Two Sugars for a hot chocolate.
I just love this place.
Odds and Ends
I'm trying to find a way to show the Kansas City roller coaster hills.
This is driving from the John Wornall Museum back to the Plaza
I had never noticed it before.
I have a couple of saved posts from last week. 2" - 6" of snow predicted, wind chills -20 to -30. Yes I will stay home.
Until tomorrow.
