Today Kansas City is warm!! Melting is taking place and I was out and about. One of my stops was at the Nelson-Atkins Museum. I needed to pick up my membership card.
I have been wanting to visit this exhibit.
This is a joint exhibit with Linda Hall Library.

Canopy Bed with Alcove
Ming dynasty 1500s
This is a book cabinet under the bed.
Made from slices of ox horn that are soaked in water to form sheets.
The sheets are shaped into the shades and they are painted.
One last thing -
This cabinet is filled with cricket houses and furniture from the Qing Dynasty.
Many Chinese people value the sound of the crickets and keep them as pets.
The gourd containers kept crickets alive in chilly weather.
Crickets and gourds were, and still are, symbols of good fortune.
These little dishes are smaller than a quarter.
Crickets are also good fighters. People would put two crickets in a clay arena and force them to fight by pushing them with a tickler. Today, there are official cricket championships and also underground fights with illegal gambling.
That's all today.
Until tomorrow.
