I went on the Roanoke Walking Tour.  I learned the house styles and some of the stories behind the houses.

Prairie style American Foursquare, 1903

#9 Shepard, Farrar and Wiser architect
Colonial Revival Style, 1912

George Jr presided over the family businesses: brewing company, Muehlebach Hotel, Municipal Stadium,  and funeral homes.
He lived in the house until his death in 1955

They moved in as newlyweds in 1907 and spent the rest of their lives here.

Originally owned by Robert Ennis, real estate businessman
The Ennises lost their home to foreclosure in 1931 in the Great Depression

Stop #2 What you can see of the Frank Lloyd Wright designed

Another view of the castle house

Also not a stop, cute Tudor.
We were learning the styles

Stop #14 Built in 1901 for $6,000
George Mathews, architect
Prairie style American Foursquare

Not a stop
I call this Industrial Ranch

Stop #13 Built in 1915 for $6,000
Nelle Peters, architect
A blend of Prairie and Tudor

Stop #7 A very bad picture of this house, 1906
Frederick Gunn designed this house for his family, however, his wife was sick and they had to sell the house.  They never got to live there.
Romanesque Style

Also, not a stop
I think this one looks like a church
so it must be Romanesque.

This was very fun.  The weather was great in the 50s.

Until tomorrow.
