Commerce Tower and the Fidelity National Bank and Trust Building

We are still exploring the 9th street historic district today.

There was one building I could not stop looking at The Commerce Bank Commerce Tower.  It's not even an old building.

A 30 story building built in 1964
Now it's an office, residential and educational building
(Park University holds classes here)

I copied this one.  It makes my stomach turn.

Next Stop: Scarritt Arcade

I have to go back.  I missed another building that is connected to this one.

Next Stop: The Fidelity Bank and Trust

35 stories - now office and residential
Built in 1931 by Fidelity National Bank and Trust building
The bank was liquidated in 1933 during the Great Depression.
The Federal Government bought the building in 1946.

I love the faces under the lower windows.

Next Stop: Stilwell Building

I passed this building but could not find any information about it.

I looked through the windows.

This is what I found:  This four-story, late 19th century masonry and steel building, constructed in 1895.  Built as an office facility, the Lyceum served Kansas City as a ticket office for the Kansas City, Pittsburg and Gulf Railroad.   Over the decades, the Lyceum Building has served many different roles, becoming the Orient Hotel, and later, the Delmar Hotel.

One more picture:

The streetcar came by while I was there.
