Midtown KC Walking Tour Valentine to Hyde Park

Yesterday we started this tour but I got side tracked.  Today I stayed on track.

Stores on the first floor and the owners would live on the second

Shirley Temple, Roy Rodgers, and Bob Hope performed here

Chatham Hotel, 1923
Opened as a Apartment Hotel

Valentine on Broadway, 1927
Opened as a Apartment Hotel

William Baker and Mary Knight House, 1890
William Knight was a civil engineer

Loose Mansion, 1902
Sunshine Crackers

Interstate Bakeries, 1930
Nafziger - owned brands Hostess and Wonder Bread plus others

Alfred and Mary Toll Residence (Mansion), 1886
Owned Badger Lumber Company
House now is the National Catholic Reporter Building

Bellerive Hotel, 1920
Luxury Hotel Apartments
6 Dining Rooms, Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday and Bob Hope performed in the Casbah Lounge

That's it for today.  I realized I missed 2 stops while typing this.  I also saved one stop for tomorrow.  There were also 4 stops for apartment building which I didn't even take a picture of.  This was one of the wealthiest parts of town in the early 1900s.  It really is a beautiful area.

This was at a Chinese Restaurant
$2 to use rest room
$9 min per person

All of my clothes and shoes are back in the closet!
The shelf above the washer/dryer combo is removed so after carpet is replaced I can fit a stacked washer and dryer.  I wanted to move the washer over more toward the wall but this thing is heavy.
I still need to organize and purge but it's in the right room for now.  Baby steps.

I hope you are enjoying Hyde Park.  I'll see what else I can find there but I will finish up this tour tomorrow.  I plan to work on the fireplace more this weekend.  I have been doing more research and have a few other things to try.  I haven't painted any more walls yet.  Today I will be cleaning all of the bits and pieces of the closet still in other rooms.

Until tomorrow.
