Dounutology

One quick visit to dounutology happened on Saturday.  I had dear visitors from Wichita Friday night.  We had breakfast before they headed back to Wichita.

I had never eaten inside.

It's quite decorated.

No I wouldn't pose.

It was so nice to see good friends.  I miss my friends from Wichita but I don't really miss Wichita.

Until tomorrow.

Thursday, July 30

Did you notice my mistake?  I had a doctor's appointment on July 30.  I made arrangements for 15lb to stay home until after my appointment on Thursday.  Just imagine my surprise when my phone binged for an appointment today, Wednesday.  Quickly I was on the phone with my son and dropping 15lb off and at the office.  I did all of these things in less than 30 minutes.  45 minutes later I picked up 15lb and we came home.

This is the doctor I'm hoping to replace.  I actually like the lady and she was at KU at one time. I don't like the clinic and the other people who work there.  I finally have an appointment at KU in September.  They have a gym for the patients and I'm very excited for that.  I don't have many health issues but I like the idea that all of the specialists will be in one place.

One more thing.  Today is WEDNESDAY, JULY 30.  I'll work on learning my days.

Until tomorrow.

Things to do when it's hot Day 2

Today I tried something new, I stood in the air conditioning and looked outside.  I also started another cross stitch and puzzle.

I saw a hawk.

He just sat there and let me take his picture.

If a sparrow is 3", this guy was 12+"

I went out to get a closer picture but he had enough and flew off.
I just enlarged this photo.

I'm tired of the heat, humidity and summer.  I feel whiny today about it.  I has sweating walking from the car to the door and it's not that far.  Fingers crossed this forecasted cold front comes through soon.

Until tomorrow.

Things to do when it's too hot

It's too hot to go outside.  When I walked Charlie at 4 I was sweaty by the time we got back in.  And we didn't walk far.

Things to do when it's too hot - Day 1.

Clean under the frig

Done

Clean side of frig

That's the big adventure for this very hot day.  Honestly I haven't done this since I moved in.  It's done now.

I hope it doesn't break now that it's clean.

Until tomorrow.

Sunday Crafty Update

Didn't get much done last week.

Goal #5 - Finish 50 Puzzles - 30 of 50 complete

Hometown
Complete.

Goal #2 - Finish 40 Cross Stitch - 28 of 40 complete

Dragonfly Magnet

I finished the same 2 as usual.  It has been hot, humid and rainy.  I feel like I have had headache for most of the week.  The humidity and heat takes a toll on me and my sinuses.  I hate summer.  We are getting closer and closer to fall.

It's going to been a weird adventure week.  It's been so humid I just couldn't out yesterday.  Don't worry I will come up with something.

Today Cancelled

I have one adventure for today but for today adventures are cancelled.  It's too hot and humid and we are staying inside.

I dropped off stuff at the thrift store and accidently came home with 5 puzzles.

Then we decided it was hot.

See ya tomorrow.

Nelson-Atkins Lawn Party

Sunday was the Lawn Party at the Nelson-Atkins.  Guess what?  It started raining.

I love rain!!

No many people.

Some brave people.

Lots of food trucks were here.

No one at the sidewalk chalk station.

Thesis Park Wall Fountains

Air things

People were performing.

The sign of Kansas City.

People were showing up finally.

I walked the entire area and loved it.  Last year it was cloudy and cool then immediately after the sun came out it was hot.  The sun did come out this year too.  Due to me misreading a text I missed the kids.  As I was leaving lots of people were getting there.  As a rain lover, I had fun.

Until tomorrow.

William B. Strang Jr.

I have to admit my curiosity got the better of me.  I had to look up William  B. Strang Jr.

He is credited as the founder of Overland Park, Kansas.  In 1905, he purchased 600 acres which would become part of Overland Park.

Strang founded the trolley car line which travelled from Olathe, Kansas to Kansas City, MO.  It was nicknamed the Strang Line.  The line ran from 1906 to 1940.  It connected the city to the country and country to the city.  It finally stopped running when it could no longer compete with the automobile.

Please note - All of these lines of trolleys which were abandoned but are now wanted again.  They have finished one expansion and are looking at others.  Every now and then there will be a report on the news of tracks found.  KCMO just has one street car now running from City Market to Union Station, and will run to UMKC later this year.

While I was looking around Overland Park I missed another Strang storage building and also a statue of Mr. Strang.  I will go back to get pictures of those later.

For the moment this finishes up Overland Park.  It's such a large area but doesn't have many brown signs, historic registry buildings, or really anything I'm interested in.  They do have 2 museums but I haven't got to see them yet.  The median house price is over $500,000.  There is a lot about that on the news.

Until tomorrow.

Last stop in Overland Park Kansas

I must admit I have avoided Overland Park, Kansas.  I don't know why.  It's stretched out and reminds me of Wichita with much nicer houses.  This is not a city you can walk, you defiantly need a car.

Sunflower with history signs that I did not read.
I was getting very hungry.

I found a Chiefs mural while looking for food

I found Strang Hall.
6 restaurants in one.

Part of the outdoor sitting.

I went with tacos.

I choose Chicken Tinga, Double Decker, and Hot Chicken.

Aren't they pretty?

The chicken tacos were spicy but not uncomfortable.  It was fun walking around and exploring with so many other people.  I visited this area when I was looking at condos before I bought. Things were selling so quick then the property we were going to look at in Overland Park sold as we were driving there.  So we went to the farmer's market and Chris bought me cookies to cheer me up.

I will have to go back.

Until tomorrow.

Overland Park Historic Downtown

I kept walking after finding the carriage house and explored the historic downtown area of Overland Park.

I found the clock tower.
This is also where the farmer's market will be.

This is part of the construction for the farmer's market.
I was trying to get a picture of the murals.

I walked until I found Kate Smith Bakery.
The kids have taken me here once before.

They have lots of maroons.

And pastries.

You probably knew I would buy something.

Red Velvet Cupcake and Chocolate Hazelnut Maroon.

They were both delicious.  This place is about 20 minutes from my condo.  It's probably a good thing it's not closer.

Tomorrow we will continue.

Strang Carriage House

I went to Overland Park Kansas to see the Strang Carriage House.  It is located in a park right down the street from the Farmer's Market.

It's located in Thompson Park.
The park like the Farmer's Market was packed.

There was a fountain!
#75

This is it.

Built around 1915 to store carriages and automobiles.

The drivers also lived there.

I didn't go inside.

The internet says its a museum but I didn't find anything about that at the building.  All the signs said the building could be rented.

I found the target now we will keep exploring.

Continuing tomorrow.

Overland Park Farmer's Market

I had a plan and I set off while it was still overcast this morning.  Then I got there and a million people were trying to find a parking spot.  Why were all of these people here?

I accidently picked a spot next to the Overland Park Farmer's Market.

This was the first booth selling bagels.
All of those people are in line.

People were everywhere!

They are building a new market and this is the temporary site.

There were so many vendors.

I wasn't planning on coming to a farmer's market.
I didn't bring cash.

Lines everywhere.

The building on the left was a parking garage.  I was so happy to find it.

After walking around and exploring the market I set off to find my reason for coming here.

To be continued tomorrow.

Wine Tasting

Really out of my comfort zone but tonight I went a wine tasting.   The HOA president told me about it last Friday. I walk to the end of the...
