I had a plan for today. Then I decided to go with plan B. Then last night I found lists of about 600 brown signs!! Anyone who reads this blog knows I love old buildings and brown signs! So we went with plan C with distractions.
The Southwest Boulevard Fire
August 18, 1959
Old clip from YouTube
This stop gets us one stop closer to finishing the Rosedale adventure.
I think there are 2-3 stops left.
Westport High School
The Westport High School now is an apartment building.
The same company has turned the Westport Middle School across the street into a co-working/business building.
At the top you can barely see a stone structure.
Yes I was walking all over.
This picture shows both buildings.
They left this.
Westport and Independence Road
Link in the Santa Fe Trail
Marked by the Kansas City Chapter D.A.R.
1821 1921
I really don't understand. Either road is at this location but streets have been renamed since 1921.
One last stop for today.
Pilgrim Lutheran church for the Deaf and Parsonage.
Constructed in 1941. Rare example of a religious building constructed by and for a special needs congregation. The Church of Silence provided services until it closed in 1987.
In 1997, Pilgrim Chapel was acquired for use as a public chapel for all people of all faiths.
It's just so cute.
Not bad for plan C. I got everything finished early so I can visit my sister/friend this afternoon.
Until tomorrow.
