I just got home from the 2 1/2 hour hike of Rosedale. It is 42 and cloudy. The hike was cold, I was cold but the people on the hike not wearing a coat were freezing.
The hike started on the "Rozark" trails.
Rosedale and Ozark = Rozark
7 miles of trails
Our trail was all uphill.
There is a well thing here that I saw.
We stopped at the Rosedale Arch.
At one time that wall behind it blocked off access to the Arch.
The Arch fell into disrepair until a new road to access it was built.
There was a tree growing out of the Arch.
When it was reclaimed a fence was put around it.
It's really a nice monument.
We walked all downhill to SW Blvd. We ran across the street.
She took us to an alley area for murals.
The George Rushton Baking Company
Erected 1920. The Rushton bakery was designed by architect Earnest Brostrom, on the site of the first bakery built in 1888. This was Brostrom's finest work, and was modeled on the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright.
The figures on the roof have been moved to a museum.
First - 1888 A shelter. Just a home then - 1917
Brick and timbers burned to embers.
Faithful hearts, energy with industry, arising from calamity.
Striving toward Ideality. This building here, erected 1920.
The George Rushton Baking Co.
Strasser Hardware.
The old City Hall of Rosedale Kansas.
It was also a fire station, jail, kept the bank vault and housed the city offices.
Built in 1912
Attucks School
An all black student school.
Our last stop was Three Bees
I had hot chocolate but other people tried the coffee.
I tried 2 different types of chicken tamales.
So good.
After our 15 minute rest we walked back up the hill.
It was quite a walk.
Tour over.
After the tour our guide directed me to the old high school.
Built in 1906
A book in the stone decorations
Beautiful building.
That's it for the day. What a wonderful tour.
Until tomorrow.
