I made it to one more Black History month event at the Jackson County Courthouse.
The Jackson County Courthouse
Andrew Jackson
Jackson County is named after him.
"This statue reminds us that history bends toward justice."
This is the exhibit
The beautiful elevators
Embarrassing but I didn't know how to run the elevators.
You select the floor you want then the elevator comes for you.
A very nice maintenance man came to help me. Actually he just did it for me
and told me when to get on the right elevator.
close-up
Very nice display
Now I have to go back downstairs.
I took the stairs this time.
It was much easier.
Today people noticed I was taking pictures.
A lady stopped and asked what I was photographing.
The nice art deco grill because I think it's pretty.
This lead to a 5 min talk about heaters in the 60s and 70s that would burn you.
US Courthouse
Getting lots of work done
At this location on October 13, 1887, President Grover Cleveland laid the cornerstone and dedicated a new YMCA building. Within a decade, the property was lost and a new YMCA was built.
The original cornerstone remains at this site.
Cleveland's visit included a reception at the first Federal Courthouse.
This counterstone was laid on October 13, 1887 by the President of the United States of America.
It's very hard to read.

That's all for today. I apologize for the long, picture heavy post. This area was also one of the first adventures I went on. The whole adventure was the art exhibit but I parked blocks away so I could walk the big loop.
Until tomorrow.
