Today was cold in Kansas City!! I had an inside adventure.
I went to the Bruce R. Watkins Culture Center's new exhibit Black Wings: American Dreams of Flight.

This is Bessie Coleman. She went to France to learn to fly.
She was the first African American woman to earn a pilot's license in 1921.
Charles B Hall became the first Tuskegee fighter pilot to down an enemy aircraft.
He received a bottle of Coca-Cola.
Eugene Bullard, one of the first African Americans to fly.
He went to France and joined the French Infantry in World War 1.
He flew briefly with the French in 1917.
Nichelle Nichols played Lieutenant Uhura in the 1960 on Star Trek.
She was not only the sole black member of the command crew but also the only female.

This is a Smithsonian exhibit. It's a wonderful display. It tells many stories of pilots who overcame all obstacles to follow their dreams and fly.
