Box Gallery and other stuff

The goal was today was to find the Box Gallery.  It has been on my list for the past year but I have never made it there.

It is downtown so on the way I almost saw the President sign on top of the hotel.

New England National Bank Building
Built in 1907

Eagle and Name

The original New England Bank Building was a one-story structure constructed of steel and masonry walls with a main entrance featuring thirteen-foot bronze doors made from a single casting.

In 1928 the building was sold and a plan for the twelve additional stories would added later in 1930. The building was rehabilitated in 2004.

Okay let's keep walking.  I was distracted.

It's in this building.
Another beauty.

Built in 1985, 20 stories.

I didn't  know where to go so I went to the bank.
I believe they are the sponsor of the Box Gallery.

Stores, Salon, and a Dentist but also an art gallery.

Found it.  Easy we can come here all the time.

The current exhibit is called Portrait of a City.

TWA Building

Charlie Parker

My favorite statue, Kemper Museum

Phone Booth Westport.

The exhibit was a collection of places around Kansas City - both states but mainly KCMO.  There is no one judging you when you walk in.  You can just enter and enjoy.

( There are cameras watching your every move.)

On the other end of the hallway:

We will explore this building more now that I know where the gallery is.

Until tomorrow.

Clendening Museum at KU Med

One of the adventure emails from KCUR, npr station, was to explore Rosedale, Kansas.  Rosedale Kansas is the town directly across the state line from Southwest Blvd to 47st.  KU Medical Center is located in Rosedale.  The adventure email suggested visiting the KU Medical Museum.  This is free to the public.

I got lost at first.  I found a building dated 1936 Children's Pavilion.

I turned around and went back to the building I thought it was.
I found a fountain.
Life is short and the art is long - Hippocrates quote

This is the building I needed.
Google maps was wrong!
Originally, the first building on KUMC campus, Bell Memorial hospital
Currently this is the administration building.

Most of the museum tells the story of KU Medical Center.
It was started by Simeon Bishop Bell.

This is a picture of the original hospital about a mile from where it is currently located.
This hospital was too small.

Letter from Dr. Bell

Microscope from the early 1900s

The Murphy Building is 100 years old

Moving the hospital one mile caused many political issues.

EKG rolls of tapes

The original building in the beginning.

Old Equipment

The New McIntosh Polysine Generator, 1928

A newer model of the generator

Have you ever wondered what happens to old paintings of the Deans?
They are in this hallway.

I went to this museum last week in the super cold days after the snow on January 17th.  I try to always keep at least one adventure ready to go in case of bad weather, temperatures or car problems.  I have been able to get out and this post was kind of forgotten.  I want to get it posted in January.

Until tomorrow.

Wine Tasting

Really out of my comfort zone but tonight I went a wine tasting.   The HOA president told me about it last Friday. I walk to the end of the...
