Ward Parkway Driving Tour Last Day

We are finishing the Ward Parkway Driving Tour today.  I really did not think this thing would take 3 days.

Stop 12 - Seth Ward House


This sign says the brick house in the rear was owned by William Bent, fur trader.


Built 1871.
Ward made a fortune by providing supplies to frontier military units 
and explorers and settlers.

Stop 13 - Bertrand Rockwell House


Mary Rockwell Hook designed this home for her parents.

Stop 14 Robert Ostertag House


Mary Rockwell Hook designed this home for Robert Ostertag.

Stop 15 - Pink House


Built in 1922.
Mary Rockwell Hook, architect, took inspiration from her travels.  She was intrigued by the pink exteriors she saw in San Francisco during the 1915 World's Fair.

Stop 17 - Wagon Master Statue

One of several monuments in the Kansas City area that commemorates the region's
 connections to the Santa Fe, Oregon and California Trails.

Stop 18 - Diana Fountain


This replica of the sculpture Diana and the Loves was commissioned in 1972.
It was the centerpiece of the grand entrance of the Alameda Plaza Hotel (now Intercontinental Hotel).

Stop 19 - Tribute to Married Love


Dedicated May 12, 1984
Prime Minister Winston Churchill seated next to his wife Clementine.
He had a friendship with President Turman.  While in Kansas City in 1946, Churchill met Joyce Hall, founder of Hallmark.  Several of Churchill's painting were used in a Christmas Card Collection in 1950.


Stop 20 - Raphael Hotel


Built in 1923 by J. C. Nichols as apartments
It has been the Raphael Hotel since 1975.
A member of Historic Hotels of America

I'm not sure what we will do tomorrow but I will find something.
