Finally I got to visit Elmwood Cemetery.
Close up of angel.
So pretty
Joseph Loose (Jacob's Brother)
Dr. Carson - He treated people by having them stand on metal and giving them a shock.
The AMA said he wasn't a doctor
Deer and Dog Grave
An orphaned deer lived at the cemetery and made friends with a stray dog.
They were always together.
The tallest headstone 38 feet
Neat headstone
Part of the Jewish portion of the cemetery.
These graves were moved here but at 1850 are the oldest.
Part of it looks like a town.
This one is really fancy.
Torches are upside down representing death
Carl Betz - Brought Physical Education in schools to US
General Samuel Bowman's grave. Bowman was a Union General during the Civil War.
His eulogy was read by Gen. Sherman at his gravesite.
Mary Atkins
(Of the Nelson-Atkins Museum)
Grave of Daniel Muir, father of John Muir who founded the Sierra Club
Daniel's children hated him and never placed a headstone.
The headstone was donated later.
Sarah Barret - Abraham Lincoln asked her to marry him.
She said no.
Last one.
Annie Chambers
The City Union Mission replaced her headstone to reflect her real name.
This was a really a neat tour. There were so many stories our guide told us. I just shared a few. There was a light rain most of the tour which was really just perfect. On the way home it started to rain really heavy, I'm so glad it waited.
Until tomorrow.
