Today we continued exploring Merriam.
– Home of Dr. Loomis who bought most of the land and buildings located at the
Quaker Mission. This home was built in 1886 and was added to the National Registry of Historic Places
on May 17, 2006.
Site of the Shawnee Friends Mission, a school established by
the Quaker Church to educate children of the Shawnee Indian tribe. The site was comprised of 320
acres with a main building that was 24 x 70 feet and three stories high. The building was built of
walnut cut from the area and milled on the Kaw River. Built in 1845, the Mission existed until 1871 and
the building was torn down in 1917 with scrap lumber being used to build various homes in the area.

Next stop, Hobby Lobby.
I needed 1 dmc floss and left with a bag
Merriam home of the Ikea Store
Our next stop was the Merriam City Hall.
Behind City Hall is the Fire Station and if I would turn around the Police Station
There was suppose to be a mural here but I couldn't find it.
I even walked around inside.
Across the street was the library and community center.
The flowers are on the side of the library
On the side of the parking garage
Bask Sculpture
The last of the public art.
Bask is at the Community Center
I couldn't find the mural here either.
Back to Russell Stover's
Across the street are the giant dice.
From the internet - The "dice" were always there, just concrete built in to slow the rain runoff. Someone just got creative and painted them and threw a giant Yahtzee cup down.
Last stop for the day - Antioch Pioneer Cemetery
This is one of the old tombstones from the 1800

Tomorrow we will finish up Merriam. I can't afford to keep exploring this place. We have almost finished everything.
Until tomorrow.
