Indian Mound and others

It was suppose to rain all day so my plans were up in the air.  This morning it just stopped and off I went.  My list was ready.

Our first stop was the Inn at 425.  This is from the book, Secret Kansas City.

This house is for sale so I don't think it's an Inn anymore.
It's haunted or so the book says.
Built in 1888, 4 bedrooms, 4.5 baths 5,200 sq ft
Listed for $1,195,000

This house goes on forever.

The whole block was full of beautiful houses.

I love the arch way on the porch

This has to be the favorite find.
The face in the wall.  There is also a turtle and lizard near the ground.

Just a couple blocks away is an historic bridge.

The Gladstone Bridge over Anderson Ave
The part you can see because of the reflection is a picture of the bridge.

Erected in 1897 for $16,000

The other side of the street is a memorial for Dr. Alice Berry Graham and her sister Dr. Katharine Berry Richardson.  The sisters founded Children's Mercy Hospital.  The official name when it opened in 1904 was Mercy Hospital.

The other side of the bridge.

This is right next to the giant slide.

The Concourse Fountains at the park

The next stop looked close of the map but you have to drive by Kessler Park to get there.  The park goes on for miles.

Indian Mound.
No one know what is inside the mound.
Rumors of digs from 1877 to 1923 unearthed bones, fireplaces and tool.
Nothing was documented.

In 1937, the Works Progress Administration halted further tampering.

Our last stop was at the Truck Eating Bridge
It even has a facebook page.

The neighborhood had murals painted on it.
They will be officially unveiled later this month.

It's really a railroad bridge.  The train came over when I was leaving.

Earlier this year both side of the bridge had warning curtains put up.
One side was taken out by a truck within a week.
Picture is from internet

Example of the truck eating bridge
It happens at least 5 times a year.

That's it for the day.  I was in an area I had never been in before.  I was so happy to see a street name I recognized.

Until tomorrow.

Really out of my comfort zone but tonight I went a wine tasting.   The HOA president told me about it last Friday. I walk to the end of the...
