Mill Creek Park

Today I explored Mill Creek Park.  This park was created in 1908 and is 11 acres.  The park is east of the plaza.  I started in the middle of the trail.

I walked by the sign and forgot to take a picture.

It's just beautiful!

Matty Hiertas Bench
An optimist who loved her four sons, daughters-in-law, family walks, laughter and lived for today.

I found this marker.

Here is the spruce.

This was near the spruce.

I was walking on the fitness trail with all of the other people.

When I got to the north end I crossed the street to get the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fountain.
I went there in January and the fountains weren't turned on.

It was hard to capture.  There are multiple levels and the water flows from one to the next.

I don't remember if I got this in January.

The Carriage House Est. 1865

I just love murals

This bar seems to go into the Carriage House.
Sometimes I get brave and explore.

The tree adapted.

Isn't he cute!
We are back in Mill Creek Park

Many of the benches have markers

You can't really read this.  I couldn't really read it either.
There is a pond here.  This helps you identify all of the plants.
It has not be worked on for some time.

Another bench

Stairs from the pond leading back to the fitness trail.

An overlook of the pond

The pond is over grown

Grand Knot

This was on Google maps.  It's a drinking fountain dedicated to the children.

Another bench

And another bench

Close-up of the Horse Fountain

Horse Fountain.
It has not been turned on yet.

This park is wonderful.

I love this park.  The fitness trail is very used and you feel very safe.  When you are on the south end you are at the entrance of the plaza with lots of traffic both car and pedestrian.  There are also fitness machines along the trail.  Just a note - all of the benches are on google maps.

When I got home I planted my 2 tomato plants.
They are just babies.

I walked 3 miles today.  That is not normal for me to willingly walk.  I might be changing a little.  For the better I hope.  The weather is forecasted for storms for the next couple of days.  We will have to wait and see what happens.

Until tomorrow.

49/63 Fountain and Tech N9ne Childhood Home

After yoga I set out for the 49/63 Fountain.  I was a little disappointed.

This is the actual fountain.

It is surrounded by these cement structures.

I even found a pile of rocks in a circle of limbs.

I was quite confused.  Where is the fountain?  This can't be it.

I was sure I was missing it.  I kept looking.  I found this.

Also on google maps near by was Tech N9ne's Childhood Home.

Tech N9ne is from Kansas City.  He is a big deal here.

Ok.  I was sure I was missing something like a fountain.  When I got home I verified that really is the fountain and it is non operational.  I have not been able to identify that other structure yet.

I painted my bedroom on Saturday and Sunday.  I still have one wall to do.  Remember my new least favorite thing is painting.  Another hold up with the bedroom is sorting through all of my craft stuff.  I have actually be sorting through everything.  I have 4 more bags to donate and I'm still sorting.  I have lived here for 6 months now and I'm just making it mine.

I also brought too many things with me.  I thought I had gotten rid of so much stuff.  I'm learning stuff is not important.

Until tomorrow.

Kessler Park and Urban Hikes - Part 2

Let's finish up the Kessler Park hike!  We ended at the half way point.  We had climbed every hill they could find.

We had climbed to Scarritt Point.

This is where the Kansas City Museum is.
We have visited the museum before.

We heard some stories.  This 5 story house was built by R.A. Long.  Only 3 people lived here: Mr. Long, his wife and daughter.  To build on this land Mr. Long had to buy or relocate the 5 existing houses.

This castle was one of the homes that was relocated directly behind the Long house.
The lady is the current owner.  She said they had to completed gut the house when they bought it.

This is the house next door.

This is the last house on the block.
It's for sale for 1.6 million.

The Colonnade

JFK Memorial

Across the street is a slide.
You sit on the cardboard and slide down.
We all did it.  Super fun.

Another mural

Finally we made it back to the lake.
We walked back to the start then took a right.

We walked to the old reservoir.
It was built to deliver water to Kansas City but it had a leak.
It was never used.

This is just a small piece of it.  It's so big.

This is the largest known living tree in Missouri.
It's a cottonwood and measures 125 feet tall and more than 28 ft in circumference.

This is Tiffany Castle.

That was our last stop.  We only had a small hill to climb to get back to the start.

This hike was a lot of fun.  Jenny, our leader, is spending the summer in Wichita as an actress.  I would not mind taking another hike but at $38 I don't know if I will.

I have been painting today.  My least favorite thing.  I just want to finish now.

Until tomorrow.

Wine Tasting

Really out of my comfort zone but tonight I went a wine tasting.   The HOA president told me about it last Friday. I walk to the end of the...
