TWA Museum

Staying with the TWA theme from Monday I went to the TWA Museum today.  It's really more of an adventure than you realize.  I made it across the river and back.  I took the new bridge that is replacing the Buck O'Neil bridge over.  I could not figure out how to get on that bridge to come home so I found another one.  Regardless I made it.

First I found the downtown airport

One of the first airplanes

How they trained pilots for one of the wars.

707 tire.  He is showing us with his hand how big a 747 tire is.

Seats from the old airport

Howard Hughes furniture

Models were everywhere

Some of their souvenirs

The poster on the right shows Howard Hughes

A telephone booth from old airport.  I had to get a picture.

These are models with seats showing how the airplane is arranged.
Some even have beds.

First Hostess Uniforms

Most uniforms

They even gave out cigarettes.

More uniforms.

Uniforms

Paper uniforms hostesses had to wear to serve food.
They stopped wearing them when they were started ripping while they were being worn.

More paper uniforms

The hostess guide.  I would not have made it.  They were measured once a month.

When the Pope flies the airplane is called Shepherd 1.
I tried to get a close up of the gold razor and toothbrush the Pope is given.

All of the Pope's special items

One of the founders of TWA.
His pilot license is signed by Orville Wright

Another founder.

Blue Chip uniform.  The flight took off every 30 minutes.

Picture of sleeping chair.

I learned a lot.  I did not know that Charles Lindbergh and Howard Hughes were involved in TWA.  Howard Hughes once had controlling shares.  Once they seemed to be all about customer comfort and now we are crammed into the plane.  My first flight in 1985 was on TWA.

I had loads of fun.  I was so happy to find that bridge.  I'm not a highway driver, the bridges that cross the Missouri river are often connected with highways,  and I have not explored this area at all.  I know that is not a proper sentence.

Until tomorrow.
