Today I finished up the things I wanted to do at UMKC.
First I went to the Linda Hall Library to see Chained to the Sky: The Science of Birds, Past & Future.
This is a bird skin. It's an actual bird stuffed with cotton.
Both of the pictures show birds that have been used throughout history.
The Dodo Bird - extinction
Another bird used in history.
A very old book with picture of bird
Evolution of the chicken
This is an actual bird hat. They even leave the head and beck on.
1910. They killed more than 1 million for fashion.
This book is the biggest book I have ever seen.
It's at least 3-4 foot x 2-3 foot.
Walking to the next room
Malachite Tazza
Presented by Czar Nicholas to August Heckscher
1910
1 Billion birds are killed each year in the US by colliding with windows
More Skins
After finishing up at the Linda Hall Library I walked over to the UMKC Gallery of Art to see the Midwest Zine Archive.
I did not understand.
So the adventure took about 1 1/2 hours today. It was a short day. Much warmer today than yesterday. I'm glad I finished up UMKC. I might visit both of these places again as the exhibits change.
Charlie was happy to have me home. We had quick walks yesterday because of the temps. He has enjoyed his walks today. Not to worry the temps are suppose to drop again.
Until tomorrow.
