Even though I won't be able to complete The Hunt KC for Black History Month I'm still going to the sites where I can check in. My first stop was Troost Lake. It's my fourth visit. I can not find the check in here. I have walked The Paseo from 35th to 28th. I have walked around the lake. I can't find the check-in.
There are people fishing here. It's stocked.
Once there were boat houses here, a very popular spot.
If the check-in is here, I can not find it.
The next stop was Gates BBQ. I can forgot to take a picture. I didn't go in. It was 10 am.
The third stop was the house of Sarah Rector. Sarah and her ancestors had been enslaved by the Creek Muscogee Indian Nation. After the Civil War the U.S, declared her family free. All descendants who were born before March, 4, 1906 were given 160 acres of worthless land in Oklahoma. Sarah's land had oil. Soon she was one of the first Black millionaires in the United States.
This was her house.
There is a sign up about saving the house and creating a museum.
It is beautiful.
Our last stop was at the Black Achieves of Mid America. They have a museum of exhibits there. Just a note - The lady who works there has to be one of the nicest people ever.
Medal of Honor
One of the displays
Military Coat
One of the weirdest sculptures I have ever seen
The is an actual slaves cabin, It's about 1/3 of the size. Donated to the museum.
This sign tells the story of the lynching of an innocent man
This display was so touching. It's called the Story in the Soil.
It's soil from lynching or murder sites with Names and Dates.
The nice lady and I talked about this for a while.
She said this scared her and she didn't like being back here.
I had a great day. I have met amazing people on my adventures. I have one of the best adventures ever planned for tomorrow. I hope nothing goes wrong.
Until tomorrow.
