Strawberry Hill Again

I went back to Strawberry Hill in Kansas City, Kansas again today.  I spent 3 hours in 16 block area.  Part of that was my fault because of the one way streets and no left turn signs.  The rest was Google Maps who decided to erase my trip again.  She got so mad at me she started talking louder and with attitude.

We started here at Visit Kansas City Kansas.  Google and I were still getting along.  I talked to the lady for a while and picked up lots of brochures.

More brochures for further adventures.

Something I was not aware of were all of the murals.  I started chasing them down.

I didn't find all of the murals.  To quote the brochure - Celebrates the history and cultures that populate Kansas City, Kansas.

It was in the 30s and my ears were frozen by now.

Back to the plan.  The world near KU Med.

A brown sign near the world.  I love brown signs.

KU Med

For Thomas Lally.  He established the Strawberry Hill Summer Concert.

St. John's Church near the Strawberry Hill museum.

The Huron Indian Cemetery was our next stop.  I was searching for 2 graves.  The Conley sisters.  This area is a native burial ground.  It is protected now.  While that was being decided the sisters built a shed and stood guard.

Helena Conley

Elize Burton Conley - the first Native American woman to argue a case before the Supreme Court in 1910.  She was fighting to protect the Native Burial Ground.

2 of my pictures won't install.  But to go on I was frozen at this point.  I really should have grabbed a hat.  I went to the casino.  Really tiny casino.  I donated $20 to them.

And now the rest of the story.  My phone was draining quickly.  So I had to stop and buy a charger and cord, $20.  After that I went to the Huron Indian Cemetery.  I parked by the library.  Both staircases were blocked off with danger signs.  So I climbed the hill.  Walked around, took pictures and then climbed down.  No left turn from Minnesota onto 7th so I went around the block and I was on 7th.  I pass the front entrance to the cemetery that was fully open.  I was just so cold.

Until our next adventure
