Midtown Mural Map Finished!!

We have finally completely finished the Midtown Mural Map!  North, South and Westport murals.  This is it.  This was started in June 2024 and finished about 1 year later.  Several of the murals are no longer there, and at least one building has been torn down.  Here are the last of the Westport Murals:

Labyrinth in Westport and a few Brown Signs

I'm not sure why but I saved a bookmark for a world-wide labyrinth finder.  So in an attempt to see if I needed this I looked up Kansas City.  There are actually quite a few labyrinths in the KC area.  Nearly all are connected to a church but are open to the public to walk.  Surprisingly there is one located in Westport.

The picture on the website is newly painted but isn't it wonderful?
I walked the whole thing.

Off to find some signs.
#24, 36 to find.
Harris-Kearney House

Sign #25, 35 left to find
Albert Boone Store/ Kelly's

This is really high so the drinkers don't take it down.

Across the street - Original Site of Harris-Kearney House

I think I've taken this before but we should probably just do the tour.
I'll put it on the list.

Then I went to the grocery store for Charlie food.

I'm trying to do things I would not feel comfortable taking a baby to.  There is such a large homeless population in Westport I will not be bringing a baby here at least to the east end.  Our adventures will be changing soon.  I'm not sure how I will do it yet.

Until tomorrow.

Passage to India at the Nelson-Atkins + Rozzelle Court Fountain

Today was one of the cultural festivals at the Nelson-Atkins, Passage to India.  I was accompanied by my two favorite guys.

We were able to very good seats for one of the dancing stages.

It was great.

We had some Indian food.

It was fabulous.

One of the oldest fountains in KC at Rozzelle Court.
#15 of 200

We went through this exhibit.

This caught my eye.
It's really tiny

I'm not sure how this was made but it was pretty.

The elephant is the lapel pin from this year and the peacock is from last year.

I love the Nelson-Atkins.  I have so much there.  I also love the pins.

Until tomorrow.

Pistachio Pudding Cookies

It's almost the end of the month and I need one bake.  Surprise!  I have 2 bakes.

I still needed to buy unsalted pistachios.
While I was there I bought a muffin mix.
Bake 1

Sunfresh is the 3rd grocery store I have tried to find unsalted pistachios.
They didn't have them either.  I found that you can wash salted pistachios.

I did not add green food coloring.

They taste wonderful.
Bake 2

Pistachios must not be a popular nut anymore.  I could not believe how hard it was to find them.  They are one of my favorites,

It's been raining and the temps are in the 50s.  I decided that I was staying in today.

Until tomorrow.

Garden House Cafe and Spicin Foods Da'Bomb

I'm trying to wrap up things up before May so today we are working on Rosedale.  I went to 2 of the 3 stops we have left today.

We are starting at the Garden House Cafe.

Here is my Hot Chocolate.

Nice little shop in the cafe

Stationary Closet

Does anyone else remember these?

The back room is full of plants

And more plants

The atmosphere is nice.

Overall, it was okay.  The hot chocolate was good but not great.  This place does not make my top 3.  It's out of the way for me and I'm not sure it's worth the drive.  My top 2 are still Sway Coffee and Two Sugars.

Stop #2 today was at the Spicin Foods.  I learned about this place during the Urban Hike.  Since then I have driven by and the sign claims Gift Shop and Museum.

Their mural.

I don't watch the show where the celebrities are given hotter and hotter sauce.  Da' Bomb is one of the sauces.  I don't eat really hot stuff.

This was the "museum".

Just a lobby area outside the gift shop.
They have a tasting bar and sell their different sauces.

Just 1 more stop to finish Rosedale!

Until tomorrow.

Flowers

I have put off planting anything in the pots for several reasons: 1) the temps have been all over the place and 2) I was wondering if anyone else would step up and do it.  So it's almost May and the temperatures are above freezing and no one else did it.

These are the pots before I refreshed them.

This is what I bought.

One

and two.

Charlie and I also put the stroller together.

He learned a few new words.
He also isn't wild about the big rolling thing.
He has a stroller too.

One of the other residents had her car broken into last night.  They drilled out the lock.  That's scary.  I really wished we had secured parking.  I don't keep anything in my car except an umbrella and the window shade.  I learned that in Wichita.  The teenagers down the block would break into the cars all the time.  Kyle and I sat in the window and watched them once.

Until tomorrow.

Fountain Day 2025

Of course this morning it was raining. Then it stopped and the sun was out.  Fountain Day 2025 is on.

There was a small crowd.

A jazz band.
Strawberry Jam
They were so good.

The mayor, Quinton Lucas

These are the people who turn it on the fountain.

Started

It's on.

This took less than an hour and the sun is gone.  I liked the ceremony and I'm very glad I was able to see it this year.

This is fountain #14.

Until tomorrow.

Wine Tasting

Really out of my comfort zone but tonight I went a wine tasting.   The HOA president told me about it last Friday. I walk to the end of the...
