Sunday Crafty Update on Saturday

I have an adventure planned tomorrow so my weekly update is a day early.

Project 1 Puzzle

Called Sea of Blue
This took me about 3 days

Project 2 Cross Stitch

I'm very embarrassed to say I bought this new.
The date on the instructions was 1993.

Project 3 - Other Crafts

I didn't finish anything but I'm working on Halloween decorations.

Project 4 - Flooring

The door was widened on Monday.  I did not hear from Lowe's this week.

Project 5 - Fireplace
Just holding it's place for now.

Highlight of the week: The kids got me a chair!

My new chair.

I feel like I have been rather lazy this week.

Tomorrow the plan is to visit the Art Garden.  I have been wanting to for a while but I was not going in the heat.  It is near the river every Sunday, April - October.

Monday, the kids are taking me to a Royals game.

The temperatures are getting cooler here so I will be open to getting outside more.  I'm running out of inside adventures.  I also pulled out the brown sign list and National Register of Historic Places List.  Don't forget the list of parks too.  Lots to do.

Until tomorrow.

Chiefs and West Plaza Neighborhood

Today was a strange adventure.  I had a plan but then watched the morning news.  Union Station has a Chiefs display this weekend.  Off to Union Station.

They were still setting the display up.

A signed helmet

The helmet below the clock.

Quick trip to Price Chopper - they are still out of rootbeer.  It's on sale this week.

On the way home I drove through the West Plaza neighborhood - where I live.  I wanted to get pictures of the 2 National Register of Historic Places.

The neighborhood was built by people who worked in the meat packing industry in West Bottoms - mainly Swedes settled here.

Mainly bungalows

Here's something I didn't know.  These homes were built before water, gas and sewer lines.  When these services became available the houses were jacked up and a basement was dug.  While the city was doing this they would adjust the grade of the road.  To sure up the front yards, retaining walls were built.

In West Plaza, there have been many tear downs and a new house is built in its place.

I like them.

You have lots of situations like this.
Old, new, new.
Oh, the new houses are million dollar houses.

This is also a good picture of the retaining wall.

This is E.F. Swinney School.
It's on the National Register of Historic Places.

It's apartments now.
They did a great job of restoring the building.

Across the street is a business area.
A bar, coffee shop and pizza place.
What else do you need?

This is the other National Register place.
Also an apartment building.
It's at the end of my block.

So that's it for my neighborhood.  It has multiple coffee shops and restaurants, no schools, and officially no parks but it's surrounded by parks. Lots of apartments, condos, old and new houses.

Sorry about yesterday.  I had to go to Price Shopper for rootbeer.  I bought the 3 they had yesterday.  Then as I was easily distracted I started shopping.  One thing lead to another and the morning was gone.

Until tomorrow.

Yanda House and Roanoke Park

I went on a very close, quick adventure.  It is quite warm.

I wanted to get a picture of Yanda House.
It looks in disrepair.

Back view in summer

Better in view in winter.

Picture in better days

I saw the house this winter and took great pictures which I can not find now.

From internet: The Yanda Residence was built by Architect, Albert J. Yanda for himself and his wife. The structure, built of steel, sits on what was considered for years to be an unbuildable lot. His creative response to the site is an introverted facade to the street and a soaring glass filled structure to the rear.

It's a 2 bedroom / 2 bath house you can see from Roanoke Park.

Roanoke Park is the next stop.

It's a beautiful park .

There are staircases from the streets above down to the park.

Community Center

Brown sign!
The last remaining brick road in Kansas City.

Brick Road

Stone marker too.

This park is close to my house.  I have been trying to find a class to take at the community center.  I don't know why it has taken me so long to get here.

Until tomorrow.

Anita B. Gorman Conservation Small Wonders Exhibit

Today with the extreme heat I was inside at Anita B. Gorman Conservation Discovery Center.

This exhibit was great.  The bugs were magnified and about 4-6 feet tall.  It was amazing the detail you could see.

Rainbow Scarab Beetle

Cicada

Look at the hairs

Frog legged Beetle
There were lots of different kinds of frog legged bugs..

Tortoise Beetle

It has lots of hairs too.

Metallic Wood-boring Beetle

Frog Legged Beetle

I can't visit Anita B. Gorman's without seeing my snapping turtle.

This is Tiger Lily.
A two headed snake

One is Tiger and the other is Lily.

I took so many pictures of the bugs but didn't want to bore everyone.  It was a really neat exhibit.  I couldn't believe all the details.

Until tomorrow.

30" door

Just a quick update today.  I have a 30" door!

Original 24" door

A roomy 30" door

It's silly I know but I'm so happy about this.  Having a 30" door allows many more choices in the buying of a new stacked washer and dryer.  I will be doing some looking this week.  It is extremely hot today and will slowly be cooling off this week so one adventure will be to Lowe's.

Until tomorrow.

Sunday Crafty Update

We have made it to Sunday again.  Here is this week's update.

Project 1 Puzzle

Album Covers.  All pieces accounted for.

Project 2 Cross Stitch

This will be an ongoing project.
I finished the first month.

Project 3 Other Stuff

Another tree, I made this one.
A little trimming might still be needed.

I bought this snowflake at Hobby Lobby this week.
I spray painted the front and back then put Kosher Salt on it.
So far I have left the edges untouched.  I'm not sure if I should paint them or not.

Project 4 Flooring

Nothing really happened this week.  I got an update call from Lowe's but nothing has changed.  We are still waiting on supplies to come into the store.

The door will be widened tomorrow.  Fingers crossed.

Project 5 Fireplace

Nothing on this one just holding it's place.

Last week was great.  The temperatures were cooler and we even got some sprinkles.  I'm planning this week's adventures but haven't finished yet.  No worries we will be adventuring.

Deaf Cultural Festival at the Nelson Atkins

Today I went to Deaf Cultural Festival at the Nelson-Atkins.

I really like the Nelson Atkins.  Every month they have a celebration.  I needed to swing by the grocery store so I was a little late and missed the start of the story telling.  Instead I did the art classes.

I made a collage.  De'VIA Art, Deaf View/Image Art.

My masterpiece

Other view

After I finished I went to the painting workshop next door.

My masterpiece II
They gave you a pre-sketched canvas and you paint it.
I ran out of time.

I had lots of fun.  Charlie and I will be in for the rest of the day.  It's cloudy and cool now but it's forecasted to get much hotter today and tomorrow.

Until tomorrow

Wine Tasting

Really out of my comfort zone but tonight I went a wine tasting.   The HOA president told me about it last Friday. I walk to the end of the...
